Neighborhood:

The residents of Croix-Rousse are very attached to their neighborhood, often describing it as their village. Historically, Croix-Rousse was independent and only joined Lyon in 1852. This separation from the city still lingers in the minds of its people. Known for its bohemian, festive, and urban lifestyle, the neighborhood is lively day and night, with its market, small shops, trendy cafés, and numerous traditional Lyonnaise "bouchons."

At the end of the Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse stands the famous "Gros Caillou," a symbol of the neighborhood, discovered in 1861 during the construction of the Croix-Rousse funicular. Another emblem is the Mur Peint des Canuts, a 1,200 m² fresco depicting Croix-Rousse and its inhabitants.

Suggestions for your stay:

Take a photo in front of the impressive Mur des Canuts (the largest painted wall in Europe), an optical illusion wall that celebrates the beauty of the hill.
From the Croix-Rousse metro stop, head to the Esplanade de la Grande Côte for one of the best views of Lyon, with a clear view of Fourvière and the city center. You can then descend the Grande Côte via the stairs and enjoy the lively gardens, especially in the summer evenings.
Treat yourself to macarons and chocolates from Sébastien Bouillet, known for their delicious flavors, including strawberry Tagada chocolate, puffed rice chocolate, and sparkling sugar chocolate.

From St. Exupéry Airport to the apartment: Take the Rhône Xpress to Gare de Part-Dieu, then take metro A towards Perrache and get off at Hôtel de Ville. Then take metro C towards Cuire and get off at Croix-Rousse. The apartment is a 5-minute walk away.
