The neighborhood

Rich in historical and architectural treasures, Lyon's 1st arrondissement houses the city administration with City Hall at Place des Terreaux, along with cultural highlights like the Lyon Opera House.

The modern history of the Lyon Opera includes the creation of the Opera Orchestra in 1983, which quickly brought together young musicians and experienced section leaders. Renowned names such as John Eliot Gardiner, the first music director, Kent Nagano, Louis Langrée, and Iván Fischer have shaped its legacy.

Place des Terreaux is a key point in this district with City Hall, originally designed by Simon Maupin in the mid-17th century, featuring a central courtyard and modified by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the architect of Versailles. Noteworthy nearby monuments include the Palais Saint-Pierre, now the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Bartholdi Fountain with the "Chariot of Liberty."

The district is also home to popular shopping streets like Rue Édouard Herriot and Rue de la République. Croix-Rousse hill overlooks the area, adding another layer of historical intrigue. Very well served by buses, subways, trams, bikes, and a 5-minute walk to City Hall.

From Part-Dieu Station: Take bus C13 toward Hôtel de Ville and get off at Hôtel de Ville. The apartment is a 10-minute walk from there.

From St Exupéry Airport: Take the Rhône Express toward Part-Dieu, get off at Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie, and take Metro line A toward Perrache. Get off at Hôtel de Ville, a 10-minute walk from the apartment.

Public transportation:
