The neighborhood

Inaugurated in June 1934, the Gratte-Ciel buildings in Villeurbanne are 80 years old. A social and architectural masterpiece, this complex of public buildings and social housing with rather modern perspectives for the time has become the city's symbol.

Villeurbanne offers all the benefits of a big city in a greener, quieter environment, with direct proximity to the chic 6th arrondissement and the Part-Dieu area. By metro, tram, or bus, you'll have quick access to all of Lyon’s neighborhoods thanks to the many available public transport options.

Villeurbanne enjoys a rich and lively community: young people, families, and retirees alike, the city offers many cultural facilities, sports complexes, associations, shops, schools, high schools, and universities.

The diversity of its inhabitants is what gives Villeurbanne its uniqueness and richness. The city is home to historical sites such as the Gratte-Ciel buildings, the Town Hall, the National Popular Theatre, the Anatole France School, the House of Books, Images and Sound, Studio 24, Astroballe (home of ASVEL), and the former Bayard and Bally factories. Villeurbanne is continuing to evolve with new neighborhoods, such as the Terrain des Sœurs, where our current project Carrare is under development.

Culture: Villeurbanne offers various cultural venues and major events that bring the community together, such as public and private theatres (TNP, Théâtre de l'IRIS), the National School of Music, concert halls (Toï Toï Le Zinc, Transbordeur), the IAC (Contemporary Art Institute), an independent cinema (Le Zola), cultural centers (Rize and CCO), a Ninkasi like in Lyon, the House of Image and Sound (the city's media library), Les Invites, the short film festival, and the youth book festival.

Sports: The city has many sports facilities, including the Astroballe for our basketball champions!
