The neighborhood

La Préfecture, the heart of the neighborhood

A distinctive landmark of the city of Lyon, the Prefecture building forms the heart of the neighborhood, contributing to its solemnity and distinction. Designed by architect Antonin Louvier, it was inaugurated on August 18, 1890. Part of the building (facades, roofs, grand double-spiral staircase, general council chamber) has been listed as a historical monument since October 15, 1981. Features like the "antique" column, Mansard roof, murals, sculptures, ceremonial staircase, grand salons, and luxurious silk decorations by Tassinari & Chatel highlight the grandeur of the building.

What to do in La Préfecture?

Restaurants and bars have settled on the barges along the quay, inviting you to share a convivial moment by the water. In the evening, you can enjoy the view of the city and the illuminated bridges… a holiday-like atmosphere just steps away! Aside from the barges on the Rhône, the streets around the Palais de Justice are home to many restaurants, such as La Cantine du Palais, Le Garage, or Daniel & Denise.

Although green spaces are limited, they are pleasant, especially when the trees are in bloom: Jardin Général Delestraint at 8 Quai Augagneur and Square Jussieu on the left bank of the Rhône, at the junction of Quai Augagneur and Cours de la Liberté.

For sports enthusiasts, runners and cyclists enjoy the riverbanks, and several centers offer activities: Centre de remise en forme Rabelais, Europe Karaté Club, L'Appart Fitness Préfecture, and Wellness Sport Club.

For theater lovers, Théâtre Tête d'Or, with 253 seats, offers great entertainment, including comedy, vaudeville, humor, and fantasy shows.
